Ben Barba’s future at French rugby club Toulon is over after just signing a 2 year, $2.5 million dollar deal in Feburary. The French rugby clubs season is over in just a few weeks after a disaster of a season.
Other players getting cut from the club are fellow Australian’s Matt Giteau and Drew Mitchell, as well as Juanne Smith and Jean-Charles Oriolo.
Paramatta Eels flyer Semi Radradra has signed with the club in Barba’s place for next season which will see him exit the NRL.
Ben Barba is currently on a 12 match ban from the NRL for his second strike on the NRL’s illicit drug policy. As we all know Barba tested positive for cocaine during the Sharks Grand Final win celebrations.
The price for Barba? Which club will he play for? How will clubs fit Barba under their salary cap? The former Dally M winners price tag would be hefty.
A 12 week ban at this stage would almost take him to the end of the 2017 season so it’s unlikely we’ll see him play in the NRL this year. But next year is looking very likely.
Barba also has the choice to remain in French rugby and link with another side. Wether he’ll play for the Sharks again is up for debate as they’re on the hunt for off contract player Josh Dugan, whom are rumored to be offering him the same Jack Bird was offered, $1 Million a season.
Edit: As time has gone on we’ve learnt that Barba has now signed with Saint Helens in the UK Super league as seen in this article here -> Ben Barba Signs With Super League Team Saint Helens. He’s secured his future until the end of 2019, we won’t be seeing Ben in the NRL until atleast 2020!
