Once the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 31-9 Sunday night in Super Bowl LV, the attention turned to next season and the futures market. Sportsbooks already had odds on who will win Super Bowl LVI, but the conclusion of this season puts the focus on next year’s title game.
For the Detroit Lions and its fanbase, championship aspirations appear far off. Quarterback Matthew Stafford is in Los Angeles and his replacement, Jared Goff, did not consistently perform at an elite level last season. Not to mention the Lions are devoid of any explosive playmakers and has numerous holes on the defensive side of the ball.
With all of those issues, it comes as no surprise the Lions are tied with the Houston Texans for the longest sports betting odds to win Super Bowl LVI at +10000 on DraftKings. A $10 bet on the Lions would return $1,000 in winnings if Detroit somehow pulled off a miracle.
The Chiefs are listed as the favorites at +550, while the defending champion Buccaneers are tied with the Green Bay Packers for the second-best odds at +900. The Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles Rams are the next top choices at +1200. LA’s spot in the top of the list can be attributed to the Stafford trade. Once L.A. traded for the former Detroit quarterback, the Rams’ title odds dropped from +1800 to the current +1200.
Elsewhere in the NFC North, the Chicago Bears are +5000 while the Minnesota Vikings are +4000 to win the Super Bowl.
FanDuel, DraftKings Crash on Super Bowl Sunday
The first Super Bowl with online sports betting in Michigan saw enough traffic to crash two of the more popular gaming apps: FanDuel and DraftKings. Sunday marked the first Super Bowl since online sports betting and mobile casino gaming went live in the state, but it was not a smooth experience for Michiganders. Numerous users reported issues when trying to log in and place their bets before Sunday’s kickoff. Both companies acknowledged the problems on Twitter and announced they were working to fix them.

On DraftKings, it appeared Michigan was the last state to have its issues resolved. At 6:49 p.m., DraftKings announced that bet placement was still not functional for players within the state. But nine minutes later, it posted an update that bet placement and bet history were fully functional.
However, some users complained they missed the promotional boosts by the time DraftKings fixed their issues. The “No-Brainer” promo that boosted any touchdown to be scored to +100 was not eligible for some once bet placement was working again.
As for FanDuel, it wasn’t until 8:47 p.m. when the company tweeted out that “customers in all states should once again be able to access the Sportsbook platform.” By then, the Buccaneers already led 21-9 early in the third quarter, essentially killing any value for Tampa Bay backers.
FanDuel and DraftKings have yet to announce if they will be refunding customers who experienced outages in Michigan.
