Michigan sports bettors will now have more options thanks to an expansion of leagues recently approved by the Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB).
The MGCB on Tuesday added 11 new sports betting options to its catalog for a total of 23 sports available for Michigan citizens to wager on.
The new sports include Australian Rules Football, bowling, cycling, lacrosse, NCAA baseball, NCAA hockey, NCAA lacrosse, NCAA softball, Rugby League and Rugby Union.
The MGCB had already approved baseball, basketball, boxing, NFL, golf, hockey, MMA, motorsports, NCAA basketball, NCAA football, Olympics, soccer and tennis.
In addition to the new sports being added, the MGCB also detailed new leagues and bet types available for various sports. Here’s a rundown of the changes.

Baseball
The World Baseball Classic will now be an option for baseball fans to wager on. The Chinese Professional Baseball League was also added as a league that can now be bet on.
Basketball
The NBA just wrapped up its draft, but come next year, bettors in Michigan will now have individual draft prop bets available to them. Examples include who will be taken No. 1, the over/under position a player is selected, the number of players chosen from a certain school and more.
The MGCB also states “for an approved player draft, betting on the draft shall stop at the close of business the day before the draft takes place.”
Bowling
Bettors will be able to wager on the Professional Bowlers Association.
Cycling
The MGCB approved the Union Cycliste Internationale races.
Golf
The golf category had 14 more events become eligible to take action on. They include PGA Tour of Champions, Presidents Cup, PGA Championship, Senior PGA Championship, Women’s PGA Championship, The Masters, U.S. Open, U.S. Women’s Open, U.S. Senior Open, U.S. Senior Women’s Open, The Open, Ryder Cup, Solheim Cup, World Golf Championships.
Hockey
In addition to the NHL, bettors in Michigan can now wager on the Champions Hockey League, Continental Cup, Ice Hockey World Championships, KHL, Swedish Hockey League, National League, SM-Liiga, Belarusian Extra League and Ukrainian Hockey League.
Lacrosse
The Premier Lacrosse League was approved by the MGCB.
MMA
The UFC and Bellator Fighting Championships will now be joined by the Professional Fighters League as MMA betting options in Michigan.
Motorsports
Formula One and the Indy Racing League will join NASCAR as motorsport betting options in Michigan.
NCAA sports
For NCAA sports, the MGCB states that “unless otherwise specified for an NCAA sport, bets on NCAA sports shall only be allowed on Division I events for the respective sport.”
