There’s Jon Rahm’s return from his positive COVID test, the Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka storyline and the annual challenge of facing one of golf’s most difficult tests. This year’s U.S. Open at Torrey Pines has no shortage of storylines, and sportsbooks are running various promotions that coincide with this year’s event.
Here’s a rundown of some of the special offers for players in Michigan, along with the sports betting favorites to win the 121st U.S. Open.
Dechambeau vs. Brooks
Golf has entered mainstream sports conversations thanks to the ongoing feud between Dechambeau and Koepka. The U.S. Open will mark the first event both will be competing in since Koepka displayed his annoyance at DeChambeau’s presence during an interview that was recently released online.
From there, the rivalry has manifested itself into one of the biggest storylines in golf. Social media shots between the two have been traded back and forth, while Koepka supporters regularly shouted “Brooksie” at Dechambeau during his rounds at the Memorial Tournament.
PointsBet and DraftKings are both letting users take advantage of the rivalry with special matchup betting offers. PointsBet is offering no juice to either back Koepka or DeChambeau with a max bet of $50. Meanwhile, DraftKings Sportsbook is letting its players place a max wager of $25 with boosted odds of +110 on either golfer to win the matchup.
PointsBet Sportsbook is also offering its users a free $25 bet on a first hole performance wager. If your first hole performance bet loses, players will receive a free bet refund up to $25.
Betting Favorites
A pre-tournament favorite has yet to win any of the two majors this year. Hideki Matsuyama won the Masters at +6000, while Phil Mickelson was +30000 to win the PGA Championship.
For the U.S. Open, the regular names sit atop the betting board. Here is a rundown of the top five at DraftKings.
Jon Rahm +1000
Rahm is still seeking his first major. If his recent form is any indication, it could come this weekend. He led the Memorial by six strokes after three rounds before being forced to withdraw due to a positive COVID test.
Bryson DeChambeau +1400
Last year’s champion dominated Winged Foot by putting an emphasis on distance over accuracy off the tee. It paid off. His bomb-and-gouge strategy led to a six-stroke victory, and he plans to utilize the same approach at Torrey Pines.
Dustin Johnson +1400
The world No. 1 showed some form last weekend at Congaree with a top 10 finish. If it wasn’t for a triple bogey late in the final round, he would have found himself in a playoff.
Xander Schauffele +1400
Finished in a tie for second at Torrey Pines in January. He hails from nearby Scripps Ranch High School.
Brooks Koepka +1800
He’s just one of seven players to win back-to-back U.S. Opens. Koepka always gets up for the majors.
Jordan Spieth +1800
Spieth has eight top tens in 13 starts this season, including a win at the Valero Texas Open. He’s missed the cut in just one tournament this season, which just so happens to have been at Torrey Pines back in January.
