The competition for Michigan poker players is now on.

On March 24, BetMGM officially went live in Michigan with its online poker offering. PokerStars didn’t wait long to make an announcement of its own, introducing a multi-table tournament known as the Michigan Classic on the same day BetMGM Poker launched in Michigan.

PokerStars’ two-day event will start on Sunday and features a $500,000 prize pool. The tournament has a buy-in at $300 with $30 satellites currently available on PokerStars Michigan.

The Michigan Classic follows PokerStars’ successful MICOOP Series. The MICOOP handed out over $2.2 million in prize money, which ended up being more than double the original $1 million guarantee due to the number of players in Michigan signing up and taking part in the event.

BetMGM’s First Major Event

On the same day as PokerStars’ Michigan Classic, BetMGM will be hosting its own major event on Sunday at 4 p.m. — the $50,000 Freeroll Invitational Tournament. The event is open to all players joining the site and is free to take part in.

The top 1,000 finishers will each receive a share of the $50,000 prize pool. First place receives $500 in tournament dollars $109 online entry into the BetMGM Grand Online Series Main Event. Second receives $400 and the $109 online entry, third gets $300, followed by $200 for fourth place and $100 for fifth. All of the top five, in addition to the other finishers inside the top 250, each will receive a $109 online entry into the BetMGM Main Event.

BetMGM is also offering players a welcome bonus of $25 and is matching 100% of deposits up to $600.

PokerStars Remains A Top US Site

Since its launch, PokerStars’ Michigan website has remained one of the top poker websites in the world, according to data from PokerScout. The site’s current seven-day average of 425 users is tied for 15th in the world, while the 24-hour peak for players reached 979.

With BetMGM now live in Michigan, it’ll be interesting to monitor PokerStars’ retention of users going forward.
