Sports Betting Welcome Bonuses Surge 60% in NFL Week 1
04 November 2026
Sportsbooks are rolling out the red carpet for new users as NFL season kicks off, with redemptions of welcome bonuses jumping 60% in Week 1 alone. Mobile betting apps are pushing larger, simpler offers to drive sign-ups from the massive sports betting audience.
Fanatics Sportsbook is leading the way with up to $1,500 in FanCash match rewards. In its standard new user offer, Fanatics matches 10 bets of $100 (10x$100) for a total of $1,000, paid as bonus bets on 10 consecutive days. Customers must make a $10 minimum deposit and place a single qualifying bet of any amount to start the 10-day schedule. Daily rewards are limited to $100 FanCash, which expire 7 days after issuance. No promo code is required.
DraftKings has a similar welcome offer: bet $5, get $200 in bonus bets. The $200 is paid as bonus bets, not withdrawable cash, and must be claimed within 7 days. No promo code is needed to unlock this welcome deal.
FanDuel's NFL welcome bonus gives users up to $150 in bonus bets, paid daily for 3 days of qualifying bets, regardless of win or loss. FanDuel produces different offers for select sports, games or events, but this is a rather lucrative spot start to any user's experience on FanDuel across various markets.
Other notable NFL Week 1 offers include:
Betr: Bet $50, get a $1,000 bet reset (first eligible wager must lose)
Hard Rock Bet: Bet $5, get $100 in bonus bets on return to player (profit)
BetMGM: Bet up to $1,500 "... and if you lose that opening bet, you'll get that amount back in bonus bets to keep on moving forward", up to $1,500
Caesars: 100% profit boost on 10 wagers, up to $2,500
bet365: $365 bonus for a minimum $10 wager
Sportsbooks are sweetening the pot this season after the commercial value of active welcome offers from major US brands exceeded $11,450 in August 2023, according to a report by OddsMatched.
Welcome bonuses are now a standard feature of the major betting apps, but the specific deals change frequently. Common structures include:
Deposit match: User gets a percentage of their initial deposit in bonus bets or credits
Bet and get: User must make a bet and wins bonus money based on the size of that bet, typically in bonus bets
First wager refund: Losing first wager is refunded in bonus bets or credits
Profit boost: A percentage of profit on the paying bet is added to the user’s account
T&Cs can change quickly and sites sometimes limit the volume of qualified competitors claiming bonuses. Users should register with multiple apps if they want to make a proper comparison.
Sportsbooks almost universally offer welcome bonuses for new customers. But the structure, exact size, and how soon the bonus can be redeemed vary widely. Expect new deals to arrive in the market too, so this kind of offer may remain a staple for new customers as the NFL season progresses.
Welcome bonuses are often the easiest way for new bettors to score free bets, credits or other paid betting opportunities. But they also come with risks. Unlocking the bonus, then meeting playthrough requirements, sportsbook house edge and time limits to redeem available totals can sway the lines of economic advantages to the betting house. A sharp hand can win it back, but many do not.
The welcome bonus on offer can stack nicely for a novice bettor coming to brands new to the game. Getting some free bets upon signing up can give some options to access markets new to the betting bettor, or in the case of BetMGM, reward an entrant for initiating with larger deposits.
But the heady draw of a good deal sometimes pushes bettors to jump in too quickly, missing the chance to find something more advantageous or match offer structures to their play style. Comparing welcome bonuses is a key first step for any sports bettor.
Can we quantify the benefits? SportsBettingInsider performed a survey of seasoned sports bettors from March 1 to March 31, 2023. Of the 4,213 participants, 2,613 had taken advantage of at least one welcome bonus in the prior year and 1,600 had not. 1,596 of the bettors using welcome bonuses reported a net positive ROI of at least 5%, while 1,514 of the bettors not using welcome bonuses reported a net negative ROI of at least 5%. The survey noted intentionally subjective bias, with bettors enjoying the advantages or conversely feeling frustrated with the risks and complications of acting on bonuses.
Some may help betting houses manage customers. Having bettors experience the house benefit on welcome bets may help create a social environment in which more expensive cash customers form a community, providing social pressure for new cash users to initiate. And that may create more reliant customers locked into bigger spend from the bonuses. Industry players deny any such intent, preferring to highlight bonuses as customer appreciation gifts, as ponying up patronage.
Bonuses as a profit sharing model is more hotly debated. When a bonus is issued, related T&Cs, whether the bonus is in cash or in bonus bets, and the playthrough needed, these can highlight volatility the bonus arm of a betting house operation is courting. Bet funding complex spreads and variance with broadens the house’s base, while acting as friction to profits at origination.
Welcome bonuses do get new customers in the door, but sportsbooks make money on those freebies. For the betting consumer, depositing to access a welcome bonus of any shape, size or style gets you in the door at a betting shop, but what comes next and what are the catches on those bonuses are key to understanding whether any given welcome offer adds any value to your betting game.
