PointsBet officially will be joining Michigan’s online sports betting launch on Friday.
The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) on Wednesday approved the Lac Vieux Desert tribe and PointsBet to launch mobile sports betting. The Lac Vieux Desert Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians operates a land-based casino in Watersmeet.

PointsBet is the 10th operator to receive approval from the MGCB to launch. On Tuesday, nine other casinos and platform providers were granted permission to begin sports betting, online casino gaming or both, on Friday.
“The MGCB team worked closely with the Lac Vieux Desert tribe and PointsBet to wrap up regulatory requirements for online sports betting in time for the initial launch,” Richard S. Kalm, MGCB executive director, said in a news release. “Other operators will launch as they meet the requirements, which are designed to protect participants and instill confidence in honest gaming.”
Here is the list of other operators and platform providers set to go live on Friday:
- DraftKings (Bay Mills Indian Community)
- William Hill (Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians)
- Barstool Sportsbook (Greektown Casino)
- TwinSpires (Hannahville Indian Community)
- Golden Nugget (Keweenaw Bay Indian Community)
- Rush Street (Little River Band of Ottawa Indians)
- BetMGM (MGM Grand Detroit)
- FanDuel (MotorCity Casino)
- Wynn (Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians)
Each of the operators will launch with sports betting. All but Barstool will also offer online casino gaming.

Michigan bettors can expect to see more PointsBet branding going forward. The Australian-based company has sports betting partnerships with the Red Wings, Tigers and Pistons.

PointsBet features its unique Points Betting wagering system. A Points Betting wager allows a player to win or lose based on the size of the outcome on the bet. With a point spread wager, if a bet wins by one point, a bettor would net 1x the original wager, and if the bet won by two points, the bettor would win 2x the original bet and so on. The size of the loss would also be determined by how many points the bet lost by.
All Points Betting markets are capped for a maximum win and maximum loss. The cap varies for each type of bet and it is displayed on the bet slip.
PointsBet made its U.S. debut in January 2019 and is currently active in Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa and New Jersey.
