FanDuel and Scientific Games are expanding their partnership to Michigan and Tennessee.

The companies announced FanDuel will use Scientific Games’ sports betting technology in two of FanDuel’s vital sports betting markets.

Tennessee and Michigan were the quickest states to reach $1 billion in total sports handle. Tennessee reached the mark in just six months after its launch in November 2023, only for Michigan to pass it in May after four months of operation since online sports betting went live on Jan. 22.

FanDuel Sportsbook is now live with OpenSports technology in six states, including Colorado, Illinois, Indiana and West Virginia. Additional states are planning to transition to OpenSports during the remainder of the year.

The recent expansion continues to add to the relationship between Scientific Games FanDuel’s parent company, Flutter Entertainment, which has spanned 20 years.

“There is simply no substitute for true platform stability and scalability,” Jordan Levin, group CEO for digital at Scientific Games, said in a news release. “Our burgeoning partnership with FanDuel enables this iconic brand to maximize player engagement and market share free from worries over potential downtime.

“As the next staging post across a long and successful journey alongside Flutter, going live in two top-performing states with our leading sports betting technology is an exciting moment for both parties.”

More on OpenSports

OpenSports technology is behind other betting global brands such as Betfair, Sky Bet, Sportsbet and Paddy Power.

OpenSports has proved reliable for betting operators during high-traffic sporting events. In the UK, OpenSports handled more than 50 million bets, recording 115,000 wagers per minute during the Grand National. OpenSports always thrived in the U.S., as operators experienced 100% uptime throughout some of the showcase sporting events this year.

FanDuel in Michigan

Since going live on Jan. 22, FanDuel has dominated the Michigan online sports betting market. FanDuel has reported the biggest sports betting handle for each month and has recorded a high handle of $372.4 million through May.

FanDuel also has a prominent online casino presence, ranking second in gross receipts at $74.1 million, trailing only BetMGM Casino ($141.7 million) in Michigan.
