Strong Start: BetMGM is the Leading Online Casino in Michigan

BetMGM’s online casino reigned supreme in the first online gaming revenue report from the Michigan Gaming Control Board.

Partnered with MGM Grand Detroit, BetMGM online casino reported $11,075,980.37 in adjusted gross receipts for its online casino. The total accounted for more than 37% of the entire online casino market share.

DraftKings had the second-highest online casino adjusted gross receipts at $6,922,607.06. FanDuel came in third at $6,633,734.86. Along with BetMGM, the top three accounted for 84% of Michigan’s total online casino adjusted gross receipts of $29,354,294.98.

Together, all the operators in the state delivered approximately $4.4 million in taxes and payments to the state of Michigan with internet gaming accounting for $4.3 million of that total.

“Internet gaming operators are off to a good start in Michigan,” said Richard S. Kalm, MGCB executive director. “The taxes and payments from online gaming will provide funding for K-12 students, the city of Detroit and Michigan tribal communities.”

One of the popular platform providers not listed under the internet casino report was Barstool. The online media company’s internet casino was not ready in time for Michigan’s Jan. 22 launch. Barstool officially launched its internet casino on Feb. 2 and will have its numbers available in the February report.

The PokerStars casino came in fourth at $1,975,021.26 despite launching a week later on Jan. 29. BetRivers was fifth with $1,352,747.80, while WynnBet ($722,916.37), Golden Nugget ($489,631.17), William Hill ($122,014) and TwinsSpires ($60,642.45) rounded out the rest of operators.

Online Casino Revenue Compared to NJ

Michigan’s online casino revenue of just under $30 million is strong when looking at New Jersey, which is currently one of the leading online gaming states in the country. New Jersey reported $99.5 million of online gambling revenue in December 2023, which makes Michigan’s total in just 10 days even more impressive.

Each of the online casinos features familiar table games such as blackjack, baccarat and roulette. There are also familiar online slots such as Wheel of Fortune, Cats and Monopoly.

PokerStars is currently the only platform to have online poker and give Michigan residents the opportunity to play against each other. FOX Bet and PokerStars are set to host the first Michigan Championship of Online Poker from Feb. 20 to March 8. The event will feature a $1,000,000 guaranteed prize pool.
