Detroit Lions vs. San Francisco 49ers Betting Odds & Pick

Coming off a 5-11 record last season and finishing fourth in the NFC North, the Detroit Lions went through some major changes in the offseason, highlighted by a new head coach in Dan Campbell and a new quarterback to take over from Matthew Stafford — Jared Goff.

The new attitude, new changes and a new direction all come into play this Sunday for NFL betting in Michigan as the Lions host the San Francisco 49ers at 1 p.m. (FOX).

This is the first full season with Michigan online sports betting. The state's online market went live on Jan. 22.

On DraftKings Michigan and BetMGM Michigan, the Lions were 7.5-point underdogs as of Friday morning, and +280 on the moneyline.

Caesars Michigan had the same spread, but the moneyline at +285. The same point spread was listed at Tipico Sportsbook, with a moneyline of +290.

So there are options for betting on the Lions in Week 1.

Lions Changes

The Lions are hoping to be better, but its going to take some time for Goff and his wide receivers to build some chemistry. Running back D’Andre Swift should be ready to go on Sunday, despite some physical ailments this offseason. Swift will be a huge asset to the offense as long as he can still go on the field.

In addition to trading longtime QB Stafford, the Lions fired Coach Matt Patricia during his third season with a 13-29-1 record.

Detroit brought in the fiery Campbell, but they were tied for the worst Super Bowl odds with the Houston Texans right after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers won the NFL Championship in February. A solid draft class didn’t move the needle much.

Jimmy G Still 49ers QB

Niners quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo wants to prove that he can still play in the NFL. Finally, he is healthy from injuries suffered last season and the Niners drafted upstart Trey Lance, who will be on Garoppolo’s heels should the veteran fall to the injury bug or just plain isn’t playing well.

Garoppolo will try to use that to his advantage to have a good year, while head coach Kyle Shanahan will use Lance in different ways to help the offense.

Prediction: The Niners have too much balance on both sides of the ball and the whole team wants to improve on its performance from a season ago. The Lions will do the same, but it will take some time. Fans will see the improvements in due time, just not on Sunday – 49ers 31, Lions 21.
