Bonus-Bet Clocks
Bonus bets are site tokens that usually expire seven days, or 168 hours, after they are credited to a customer’s account. Major sportsbooks start the seven-day clock from the exact time the funds are credited, not when they are placed. Unused bonus funds are typically forfeited when the seven-day window closes.
When weighing a bonus bet offer, map out the seven-day window tied to it rather than focusing on the headline bonus dollar amount, especially in a competitive market. A large bonus value tied to a strict expiry rule is less attractive than a smaller bonus that offers a longer use window.
Placing a bonus bet uses it, so bettors feel an urgency to place that one bonus bet as quickly as possible, to make sure the promotional funds are not forfeited before they are put to use. The time in which to "redeem" the bonus bet is the time between when it is credited and when it must be used, effectively making the redemption and usage windows one and the same.
When a bonus is credited, the clock is already ticking. The timer commonly starts when the funds are credited because the promotion is an offer that has already been vetted, validated, and taken by the account holder.
Free Spins Have A Shorter Fuse
Free spins in online casino offerings have even shorter lives than bonus bets and may expire within 24 to 72 hours of being credited. Free spin crediting and expiry follows operator terms, though details may vary. These enticements are meant to seed a session with enticing no-cost spins, and sometimes extend a player’s activity in other games within the win-limited wagering window tied to the bonus.
The Wagering Window Is Not the Same Clock
Many promotions include a wagering window that is separate from their redemption or usage clock. A common wagering timeline is a 30-day period to roll the bonus all the way through, converting the bonus balance to withdrawable credit. Miss either one and the balance goes: the bonus is removed, and so is anything still sitting in the restricted balance that was won with it.
In some bonus terms and conditions, additional bonus bets added to an active balance can reset the expiry so that the entire balance will expire seven days after the most recent addition. The "wagering" window is only connected to the rollover requirement, not tied directly to the bonus bet’s usability. Bonuses bets themselves can be used within the shorter seven day window, but a winning bonus bet must be rolled according to the time specified in the Terms and Conditions to be cashed out.
So note two dates the moment anything is credited: the day the bonus itself dies, and the day the wagering window closes. Some apps warn you before the first one. None of them give the money back afterwards.
